The Public Prosecutor demanded 20 years in prison against a 41-year-old man for the murder of his farther Bart Hillen from Helmond. According to the Prosecutor, the suspect violently killed his father, purely for financial gain, before dumping his body in the Zuid-Willemsvaart in Helmond, AD reports
About 50 barrels filled with what is believed to be drug waste were found dumped in and around the Zuid-Willemsvaart near Weert on Tuesday, 1Limburg reports.
The barrels were spotted by a passing skipper around Sluis 16. Dutch public works department Rijkswaterstaat and the police are at the scene to investigate. The barrels are being checked for leaks and removed from the water. Their content will be researched afterwards.
A bag found floating in the Zuid-Willemsvaart canal in Helmond on Thursday morning contained the lifeless body of a man, the police confirmed. The identity of the victim and cause of his death are still under investigation. But given the circumstances in which the body was found, the police believe he was murdered.
