Dutch policymakers should work harder on "the new diversity" in the Netherlands and to combat the discomfort that comes with it, the scientific council for government policy WRR said in its report 'The new diversity. Increasing diversity by origin in the Netherlands', NOS reports.

The Dutch middle class face many uncertainties and it is important that the government focuses on reducing it, according to recommendations made by the scientific council for government police WRR on Wednesday.  There is no sign that the middle class is falling, but people in this group have to put in extra effort to maintain their social position, the WRR concludes, ANP reports.

The gap between ethnicities, social classes and various education levels is smaller then you might think, according to Wil Tiemeijer, researcher at the scientific council for government policy WRR. But constantly talking about it and reading about it in the media exaggerates the problem, he said to newspaper Trouw.

The Scientific Council for Government Policy (WRR) and Statistics Netherlands are dropping the Dutch terms "autochtoon" and "allochtoon", the Volkskrant reports. According to the two institutions, the words aren't accurate enough anymore and are stigatizing.
