This year was a good one for the richest people in the Netherlands, according to the Quote 500. The combined wealth of the 500 richest Netherlands residents increased by over 10 percent and the Netherlands now counts a record 37 billionaires. Though for the third year in a row, the magazine mentioned how few women there are in the list - only 37.
Eleven chains that offer meal delivery agreed to offer extensive traffic training to their deliverers, in an attempt to reduce the number of accidents involving delivery workers. Participants include Domino's Pizza, Febo, Spare Rib Express, and Taco Mundo. The services Thuisbezorgd, Deliveroo and Uber Eats have not yet signed up, NOS reports.
Supermarket chain Albert Heijn will start offering hot meal delivery from Friday - the first Dutch supermarket to do so. Initially Albert Heijn will only deliver freshly made meals in a certain area in Amsterdam. Deliveries will be handled by Thuisbezorgd.nl and Deliveroo, NU.nl reports.
"We see an increasing demand among our customers for good meals, like you would make yourself, without having to go into the kitchen", said Marit van Egmond, Albert Heijn's director of commerce. The company described this as the next step in food service.
In the second quarter of this year, Dutch ordered a total of 440 million euros worth of meal deliveries, according to a report by ABN Amro. Pizza is the most popular delivered food, followed by grill dishes, fast food and sushi, AD reports.
On average, Dutch spend 11.40 per person per order. Sushi and other Japanese dishes are most expensive, at 17.96 euros per meal. Ordering a pizza for delivery costs an average of 9.57 euros per person.
Controversial taxi service Uber is launching a food delivery service in Amsterdam on Thursday. UberEATS will use bicycle couriers to deliver meals in the Dutch capitals, thereby becoming a new competitor for existing platforms like Thuisbezorgd.nl, Deliveroo and Foodora
More than 60 percent of cafe- and restaurant owners have been blackmailed with negative reviews from customers. Customers would negotiate a substantial discount or demand a free cup of coffee in exchange for not posting a bad review on influential rating sites like yelp.com, lens.nl and Thuisbezorgd.nl.
