About 2 thousand piglets and sows were killed in a fire on a pig farm just outside the Noord-Brabant village of Mill on Wednesday night. Two barns containing the 2 thousand pigs were completely destroyed in the fire, Omroep Brabant reports.

Another barn could be rescued by the fire brigade. The pigs inside were evacuated and taken to a fourth barn. According to the Gelderlander, the farm owned a total of 600 sows and 2,200 pigs. 

The fire was under control around midnight. Multiple fire brigades responded to deal with the fire. The cause of the fire is unclear.

On a farm in Milheeze (Noord-Brabant) all 1100 pigs were killed on Wednesday, after the ventilation system in the stable had broken down. This was told by a spokesperson of the municipality of Gemert-Bakel of which Milheeze is a part of.

The ventilation system on the farm at De Haag in Milheeze, was possible already broken on Tuesday. However, that was only observed on Wednesday. The pigs died due to the high temperatures and the lack of fresh air.

5,000 pigs were killed on Thursday evening by a fire in a farm near Spoordonk village, between Eindhoven and Tilburg.

The fire broke out around 7:00 pm in the pig farm Van der Meijden at the Langedonksedijk in Spoordonk near Oirschot. The fire completely burned down three stables. Van der Meijden held 5800 piglets and sows, 800 of which survived the blaze. According to Fire Chief Ton Driessen, four other stables and the main building of the farm were spared.
