Authorities arrested one woman in connection with the apparent abandonment of a young boy at Amsterdam Centraal station, police announced Thursday afternoon. Tips from alert citizens led to the arrest, police added.

The identity of the woman and her relationship with the child was not revealed. The child had also not said one word to investigators after he was taken into custody, but police believe he is either four or five years of age.

Technical problems with air traffic control in Amsterdam has led to "very high delays" at Schiphol Airport, according to the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol). Air Traffic Control at the airport "is still experiencing system problems and is currently working on a solution," Schiphol tweeted just before 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

A nail-biting lottery is how Amsterdam is now officially the next home of the European Medicines Agency (EMA). Roughly 900 jobs will move to Amsterdam, with staffers needing to choose between staying in the UK or making the move to the Netherlands. 

The European Union's EMA will formally leave London, United Kingdom beginning in March 2019 because of the impending Brexit.

The body of 48-year-old Maria de Jesus dos Santos Goncalves Santana was found in a lake on recreational area Starnmeer in Noord-Holland on Tuesday, the police said in a statement on Thursday. The 48-year-old Portuguese woman from The Hague went missing late in August.

The victim's 43-year-old partner was arrested on October 11th in connection with her disappearance.

A fractured securing bracket and several inadequate bolts and screws caused a fuselage panel to fly off a KLM aircraft shortly after takeoff, the Japanese Transportation Safety Board said on Friday. While climbing over Osaka, an upper fuselage panel fell off the plane striking a vehicle on the ground. There were no injuries in the incident.

The accident took place on Sept. 23 not long after KLM flight 868 departed Osaka Kansai airport in Japan at 10:26 a.m. The 14-year-old Boeing 777 safely landed in Amsterdam the same day at 3:01 p.m. local time.

Three people were arrested in connection with the discovery of 600 kilograms of cocaine in a warehouse. Police said the drugs have an estimated value of 16 million euros.

The cocaine was seized from the building on Vrij Harnasch in Den Hoorn, just west of Delft, Zuid-Holland, at about 2 a.m. on Friday. Authorities took a 50-year-old from Bussum and a 48-year-old man from Den Haag into custody at the time of the operation. Another person from Den Haag, aged 43, was arrested at a home in that city.

Police arrested two suspects in connection with the kidnapping of a young woman from a train station in Eindhoven. A 31-year-old Alkmaar man was taken into custody on October 26, which police made public on Friday. A 45-year-old was also in custody according to police.

The victim was abducted and pulled into a car by two men in the early morning hours of May 27. She was then kept captive for hours in a house in Son en Breugel, where police say she was raped. When she was released hours later, she immediately called authorities, according to a police report.

Concrete barricades were placed around the popular Dam Square in Amsterdam late Wednesday night. Weighing up to 500 kilograms, the blocks are meant to stop vehicles from barrelling through the area, a spokesperson for the city told AT5.

The move is one of several visible and invisible counter-terrorism measures undertaken by the city, a spokesperson said. The square is home to one of the country's royal palaces.

The Noord-Holland police and Public Prosecutor decided to launch a DNA kinship investigation in an attempt to finally solve the rape and murder of 19-year-old Milica van Doorn in Zaandam in 1992. On Monday a total of 133 men received a request to give a voluntary DNA sample for the investigation. None of the men approached are considered suspects, but the investigators hope that one of them is related to the suspect.

Home prices in Amsterdam increased sharply in Amsterdam in the third quarter, while the number of home sales in the entire Noord-Holland dropped, according to figures from Statistics Netherlands and the Land Registry. Home prices in Amsterdam were 13.8 percent higher, compared to the third quarter last year. Nationwide, home prices increased by 7.6 percent. 

Home sales in the Netherlands reached record high in the third quarter. Over 61 thousand homes were sold, the highest number ever sold in one quarter. These transactions involved over 16 billion euros.

The number of accidents on Dutch highways increased significantly over the past years, according to figures from incident management foundation IMN. Over the past 12 months there were 25,963 accidents on Dutch highways, an increase of 27 percent compared to four years ago, IMN - a collaboration between Dutch insurers and road managers - reported on Thursday.

An exceptionally bright fireball was spotted in the skies all across the Netherlands on Thursday night. Dozens of people in the Netherlands as well as Belgium reported seeing the bright streak of light around 9:00 p.m. It was very likely a meteor, though that can not be said with absolute certainty yet, Felix Bettonvil of Leiden Observatory said to AD.

Shocked and sad reactions met Amsterdam mayor Eberhard van der Laan's announcement that he is Van der Laan (PvdA) announced on Monday afternoon that he is resigning, based on the advice of his doctors. One Amsterdam city council member described the news as "a punch to the face", RTL Nieuws reports.
