Dutch schools must be legally obliged to ensure that their pupils exercise or play sports for 30 minutes twice a day, the Dutch Sports Council, the Education Council and the Council for Public Health and Society said in a report. "It is a compelling advice to the responsible ministers. We see more exercise as a national interest", Michael van Praag, chairman of the Sports Council, said to NOS. "It's not only healthy, children also learn better and cognitive skills increase when you move occasionally."
People in the Netherlands are the most active of all Europeans. About 80 percent of Dutch people cycle, walk, garden or swim on a weekly basis, compared to the European average of 44 percent, according to the Euro Barometer - sports and physical activity by the European Commission, Trouw reports.
Also when it comes to playing sports, the Dutch scored well. 56 percent of Dutch play sports weekly, compared to the European average of 40 percent. Though Sweden, Denmark and Finland did better in this field.
The Royal Netherlands Football Association (KNVB) and Nike have revealed the new away kit for the Dutch national football team in celebration of the Dutch style of play, KNVB press release states. The association says that the new kit combines the evocative Dutch national colours and a design that captures the "exhilarating speed of their football."
The Belgian police shot two armed jihadists dead and arrested one in a Belgian city of Verviers late Thursday night. The armed men were part of a network which partly consists of returned rebel fighters from the Syrian Civil War. They were planning on attacking police stations and courthouses, according to Belgian police.
