Foundation Halt and the Public Prosecution Service together launched an experiment in which young criminal hackers are sent to work at an ICT company as part of their punishment. The first trial run of this experiment, called Yoda after the Star Wars character, has already been completed in collaboration with three ICT companies in the northern provinces, the Prosecutor said in a statement.
More and more young Dutch end up at the youth crime intervention office HALT for using a fake identity card, according to figures NOS received. Last year a total of 428 young Dutch were sent to HALT for using a fake ID, compared to 350 in 2015. In the first four months of this year, HALT already gave alternative punishments to 147 teenagers for using a fake or borrowed ID.
The "say no to alcohol" course of Halt has no effect. The course was intended to help young people stop drinking, but an evaluation by Bureau Beke shows that 6 months later the participating young people drank just as much and as often as before the course, Metro Nieuws reports.
Statistics show an annual drop in the number of young people aged between 12 and 25 who are placed under suspicion of criminal activity. The number of youths of non-native Dutch origin suspected of crimes, however, is dropping less quickly, Het Parool reports.
