Alma-Tadema: classic seduction exhibition in the Fries Museum in Leeuwarden

The Fries Museum won a Global Fine Art Award in New York for its exhibition of work by Dronryp born artist Lourens Alma-Tadema (1836-1912). In the museum world, this award is also known as a 'museum Oscar', NOS reports.

The exhibition, titled Alma-Tadema: classic seduction, featured more than 80 works showing scenes from Antiquity. It attracted more than 158 thousand visitors this winter, a record for the Fries Museum.

The Noordbrabants Museum and the Museo del Prado together won the prestigious Global Award for Fine Art for the exhibition "Hieronymus Bosch - Visions of a Genius", which celebrated the 150th anniversary of the Dutch artist's death last year, Omroep Brabant reports.

The museums in Den Bosch and Madrid shared a large part of the exhibition. The two art institutions won in the category "Renaissance, baroque, old masters, dynasties - solo artist". Noordbrabants Museum director Charles de Mooij received the award in New York.
