The Dutch economy continues to grow strongly and economic growth is even accelerating, according to Statistics Netherlands. In the second quarter the Dutch economy grew by 0.7 percent compared to the first quarter of this year. The stats office attributes the accelerating growth to foreign trade and higher investments.

Minister of Foreign Trade Lilianne Ploumen said the controversial arbitration clause of the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) is already "dead and buried." She made the comment about the Investor State Dispute Settlement after receiving a petition to boycott the TTIP, a far-reaching trade agreement between the United States and Europe, signed by 110 thousand people in the Netherlands.

Dutch foreign trade and development minister Lilianne Ploumen showed three radio DJs into their confined space, a glass room in Haarlem’s Grote Markt and promptly locked the door behind them Thursday evening. The 3FM personalities, Gerard Ekdom, Coen Swijnenberg and Domien Verschuuren will sleep and work in the house for one week as they raise money for charity, with the theme “Hands off Our Girls.” 

They do not get to eat for the week, getting only nutrition shakes instead of food. Over 2.4 million euros has already been raised through Sunday afternoon for this year's campaign.

Two Dutch companies delivered products to Syria last year for the country's chemical weapons program. The delivery included 218 tons of glycol and six teflon pumps, according to ministers Lilianne Ploumen for Foreign Trade and Ivo Opstelten of Security and Justice on Thursday in a letter to the House of Representatives.
