The Red Cross in the Netherlands will soon be using virtual reality films in their first aid courses. The aid organization thinks that this will help students better envision an emergency situation so that they can learn how to deal with it, reports.

The virtual reality films will first be used during an attempt to break the world record for the largest first aid course on Dam square in Amsterdam on September 9th. The current record stands at 1,795 participants. The Red Cross hopes to get up to 2,500 people.

"Let us make sure in this way that we make the Netherlands safer and help each other", Rutte said in the Red Cross video. "That is really something we can do as a society."

Young parents in the Netherlands are flocking to first aid courses. They want to be able to save their child's life in case of an emergency, De Stentor reports.

Between 2013 and 2016 the number of people taking first aid courses in the country increased from 9 thousand to about 65 thousand. Belinda van der Graag of Red Cross Netherlands attributes the growth mainly to increased publicity the Red Cross gave to first aid in recent years.
