Due to the high dollar rate, the Ministry of Defense may not have enough money to buy the last three of the 37 Joint Strike Fighter jets the government plans to purchase, State Secretary Barbara Visser of Defense wrote in a letter to the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, ANP reports.

The Netherlands will provide the first space outside the United States to test engines for the Joint Strike Fighter jet programme, the Dutch Defense ministry announced on Thursday. A test facility will be built in Woensdrecht, Noord-Brabant with equipment, spare parts and training provided by engine manufactuer Pratt & Whitney.

The ministry, Noord-Brabant as well as the Economic Affairs ministry will invest in a maintenance workshop and testing ground. It is expected to provide work for specialists through 2049, the Defense ministry stated.

One of the Netherlands two Joint Strike Fighter jets will make a second attempt at flying a tour across the country, after last week's flight was cancelled due to bad weather. Should the skies remain un-cloudy, almost everyone in the Netherlands will have a chance to glimpse the replacement for the F-16's on Tuesday afternoon.

The Dutch Air Force has made a deal with its Italian counterpart to send F-16 pilots, and likely also F-35 pilots to train on the Alenia Aermacchi M-346 jet trainer with Italian crews. Both parties signed an agreement in which the Dutch Air Force will kick off the cooperation, sending one instructor and two student pilots to train on the M-346 in Italy's Lecce Galatina Air Base near the southern Italian city of Lecce.

The Ministry of Defence has decided that all F-35 fighter jets from the United States of America are to remain grounded for now due to an incident on the 23rd of June, in which one jet caught fire trying to take off. The Joint Strike Fighter unit (JSF/F-35) includes two Dutch aircrafts, which are also grounded. According to the Ministry of Defense, this is standard procedure.
