Dutch food and product safety authority NVWA raided a very expensive Amsterdam fashion boutique this week and seized 105 items of clothing made of leather from endangered species - including shoes, coats, belts, skirts and other accessories made of crocodile, python and anaconda leather, the Volkskrant reports based on a court ruling.

The court in Amsterdam sentenced 10 people to up to thee years in prison, up to 240 hours of community services and fines totaling in 10 thousand euros for large-scale drug trafficking and other drug related charges. The gang is best known for using crocodiles to guard their loot, Het Parool reports.

Artis zoo managed to successful artificially inseminate false gharial this week. As far as is known, this is the first time in the world that artificial insemination was successfully done on this species of crocodile, Artis announced in a press release
The zoo has had this endangered species of crocodile in residence since 1887. There are only an estimated 2,500 false gharials in the wild. They can be found in Malaysia, southern Myanmar and on the Indonesian islands of Borneo, Java and Sumatra.
