The debts of investors, home buyers, consumers, companies, and governments are rising to dangerously high levels world wide, Nout Wellink and Hans Hoogevorst warn in the Telegraaf.

Wellink and Hoogevorst were in charge of Dutch central bank DNB and Dutch authority on financial markets AFM respectively during the financial crisis that started in 2008. 

According to the two financial experts, there is insufficient clarity on where the risks are, which means that markets could underestimate the rising deficits. They call te banking sector a particular cause of concern.

ING decided to withdraw a proposed salary increase for CEO Ralph Hamers due to . "We realize that we underestimated the public response in the Netherlands to this clearly sensitive issue", chairman of the supervisory board Jeroen van der Veer said in a statement on Tuesday, ANP reports.

GroenLinks wants to block a  with a legislative amendment. Party leader Jesse Klaver hopes to pass this law through parliament and the Senate as quickly as possible, so that it can be submitted to the Council of State for urgent advice this week. ING shareholders will discuss the proposed increase on April 23rd, ANP reports.

ING Bank raised the salary of CEO Ralph Hamers by more than half this year, to over 3 million euros, NOS reports. Parliamentarians are furious and demand an explanation. Minister Wopke Hoekstra of Finance is "not amused", according to newspaper AD.

A bank employee was dismissed with immediate effect after he was caught spying on family members' bank accounts. A Disciplinary Committee found him guilty of breaking the Banker's Oath and banned him from workng in the banking sector for six months, NU.nl reports based on the ruling.

The employee spied on the banking information of his in-laws, acquaintances, his partner and other family members.

Dutch bank ING recorded a net profit of 1.3 billion euros in the first quarter of 2016, compared to 1.8 billion euros in net profit the bank made in the same period last year. Excluding once-off windfalls and set backs, the profits dropped 29 percent to 842 million euros

Banks want politicians to stop with the ever increasing rules and requirements for the sector. They fear that all these requirements will force them to implement extra fees on loans and mortgages.

Minister Jeroen Dijsselbloem of Finance wrote the Dutch law giving banks a tax deduction on coco's, a type of bond, largely based on advice from ING. This tax deduction has given the entire Dutch banking sector an advantage of 350 million euros per year.
