The increasing retirement age in the Netherlands will eventually cause problems because many Dutch are not physically able to work after the age of 65, the Dutch association for occupational medicine NVAB said to newspaper AD on Tuesday.

The average age of retirement in the Netherlands was 64 years and five months last year, four months older than in 2014, according to figures released by Statistics Netherlands on Tuesday. This is the ninth year in a row that the average retirement age increased.

Coalition party VVD has said that the jobs plan presented by labour unions earlier this week is an "idiotic" plan that destroys jobs, and is therefore unspeakable. VVD-faction president Halbe Zijlstra says in an interview with De Telegraaf that the PvdA should also take distance from the proposals.

Singles with a low income, and who take in their mother or father, could feel stiff financial drawbacks to this from 2015. The lower the collective income, the more adult children and their parents will have to hand in if they start living together again.
