NS offered apologies after a conductor played a football song about Jews on an intercity train between Tilburg in Rotterdam on Saturday evening. "Let it be clear: we find this completely inappropriate," the rail company said on Sunday after being alerted to the situation by a traveler, NOS reports.

The song was "Waar komen Joden toch vandaan", which translates to "Where do Jews come from". The song is regularly sung in the Johan Cruijff Arena in Amsterdam by Ajax supporters who use "Jews" as a nickname.

Higher education students in Rotterdam were accused on Friday of sharing disturbing images and statements in chat groups, including material which was racist, anti-Semitic, and sexually offensive or harassing. The Hogeschool Rotterdam (HR) said the chat messages were shared in several education-related groups connected to the college and to the Erasmus University.

“We are very shocked by the cross-border nature of the messages,” said HR board chair Ron Bormans. “This behavior completely contravenes our norms and values ​​and is not tolerated by our applied sciences university.”

The number of anti-Semitic incidents reported to the Netherlands' information and documentation center on Israel CIDI last year increased by a massive 35 percent compared to the year before. CIDI received 182 reports of discrimination against Jewish people - the highest number since the center started keeping track 30 years ago, NOS reports.

Swastikas and offensive texts were painted on a number of gravestones in the Jewish cemetery in Dordrecht. The user of the cemetery, the Jewish Congregation of Rotterdam, was informed of the vandalism on Monday, RTV Rijnmond reports.

The vandalism happened only days after the international commemoration of the liberation of extermination camp Auschwitz.

A firework bomb exploded at the home of a Jewish family in Hippolytushoef last week - the latest of dozens of anti-Semitic incidents targeted at the family over the past 20 years, according to father Wouter Schmidt. The municipality of Hollands Kroon, which covers Hippolytushoef, is investigating whether a group of young people may be responsible for the harassment, NH Nieuws reports.

The number of reports of discrimination filed in the Netherlands dropped from 11,479 in 2017 to 10,087 last year, the Public Prosecutor announced in its annual report on discrimination cases on Tuesday. As in previous years, most reports involved discrimination based on origin, NU.nl reports.

The Public Prosecutor's report includes figures from anti-discrimination facilities ADVs, the police, the online discrimination reporting center MiND and the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights. Only the Human Rights Institute saw an increase in reports last year, from 416 to 510.

Multiple windows, doors, traffic signs, walls, tram stops and a statue in Amsterdam were covered in paint and graffiti overnight. ADO Den Haag fans seem to be claiming the action on social media, the Telegraaf reports.

The vandalism was committed in green and yellow paint - the colors of football club ADO. 'JHK' was spray painted on multiple walls and tram stops. According to the newspaper, 'JHK' is short for 'Joden Hebben Kanker', or 'Jews have cancer' in English. Ajax fans are often called 'Jews', a nickname they embraced.

Kosher restaurant Ha Carmel on Amstelveenseweg in Amsterdam was again vandalized. The restaurant owners arrived on Friday morning to find a massive star of cracks on one of the windows. The police believe something was thrown at it, Het Parool reports.

The police are currently doing a forensic investigation at the restaurant.

Patrons of the Boi Boi restaurant in Amsterdam had quite a shock during the dinner service on New Year's Day when a man allegedly started masturbating in front of the glass while shouting antisemitic insults in front of one of the cafe's windows. The scene unfolded on the Dapperstraat in the eastern district of the city at about 9:15 p.m. when the man started pounding on the glass.

A meeting will be held in Amstelveen next week between city councilors and members from the Jewish- and Muslim communities in the city. The goal is to discuss the important issues for both groups in the run up to the parliamentary elections in March, Het Parool reports.

The meeting is organized by the Jewish Muslim Platform Amstelland, the Jewish-Islamic organization Mo&Moos and the Jewish Bendigamos. Amstelveen councilors of the VVD, PvdA, D66, SP, ChristenUnie, CDA and GroenLinks will attend.

A fireworks attack on a Jewish family in Amsterdam over New Year's has politicians concerned, both on a local and national level. A spokesperson for Mayor Eberhard van der Laan stated that the mayor finds the attack "terrible" and that he will respond in more detail during the general meeting on Thursday
