Amsterdam is changing its Housing Regulations in an effort to tackle the problems in the local housing market. Some of the main changes proposed for 2020 include a quota on Bed & Breakfasts, banning holiday rentals in certain areas, giving young locals and healthcare and education staff priority for rental housing, and limiting room-based rentals to create more space for families, the city said in a press release.
The municipality of Amsterdam is working on implementing a rental ban on new owner-occupied homes, in an attempt to prevent new homes from being bought up by investors and then rented out for hefty sums, the municipality said in a press statement. The ban will not only apply to the first buyer, but also to the people who later buy the home.
The madness on the Amsterdam housing market seems to have reached a new low point with an ad for a room for rent on Kamernet.nl, which RTL Nieuws discovered. The six square meter room was advertised for 878 euros per month. The ad has since been removed.
Amsterdam is lowering the price of land for the construction of 1,500 mid-level rent-controlled housing, the college of mayor and aldermen announced on Tuesday. The municipality is willing to lose out on 160 million euros in income on the land in order to remedy the serious shortage of rental housing for people who earn too much to qualify for social housing, but can't afford to buy a house, Het Parool reports.
