Amsterdam expands home seekers scheme to improve the flow of the housing market

Amsterdam are going to help residents in their search for a suitable home and moving out. The municipality will do this in order to garner some movement in the logged housing market.

The existing scheme to get people to a smaller home that fits their needs more is being expanded. They will be given preference when searching for a different home and will keep their current rental price even if the new home is more expensive.

This will lead to more bigger homes becoming available. People who use this scheme will receive compensation when they move. Housing associations are also going to work together more often to make home switching more accessible.

The scheme is for social rent, middle rent, and purchase homes. People using the scheme can also receive financial advice and help with the cleaning of their home.

“Housing is a basic necessity,” said the alderwoman for housing, Zita Pels. “It is important that your home suits your situation in order to live in a healthy and pleasant manner. For example, around 12,000 families are living in social rental homes that are too small in Amsterdam. The children do not have any space to do their homework. “

Pels added that making it easier for people to move to a different home will result in more homes being available for other people’s needs.
