Even though Dutch people like to grumble when things do not go their way, the population is generally pretty satisfied about the country, according to a study I&O Research did on behalf of newspaper AD. The survey among more than 6 thousand Dutch found that while there are concerns about contradictions in society, most are positive about the Netherlands' future, AD reports.

Both the PVV and 50Plus gained popularity this past week in Maurice de Hond's latest poll. The PVV now stands at 30 virtual seats, putting Geert Wilders' party 4 seats ahead of the VVD. 50Plus now stands at 11 seats, giving the party for the elderly more seats than the PvdA, wich stands at 10.

According to Het Parool, this is the first time since 2013 that 50Plus is doing so well on the polls.

The first results of the water board elections have started trickling in. The preliminary results show that the CDA and VVD did well compared to the water board elections of 2008. The PvdA is lagging behind. 50Plus have achieved good results in most water boards in the preliminary results, NRC reports based on information for the Association of Water Boards.

All votes have been counted and the final results show that the VVD remains the largest party in the Netherlands with 15.8 percent of the Votes. The CDA came in close second with 14.7 percent. The party that suffered the most loss of support is the PvdA, which went from 17.3 percent in 2011 to only 10 percent. The D66 gained the most support - from 8.3 to 12.3 percent. The turnout for the election was 47 percent, compared to 56 percent four years ago.

The PvdA has been dethroned as the largest party in Amsterdam, losing almost half of its support in the city during yesterday's provincial elections. Amsterdam had been a stronghold for the PvdA since World War II, with the party only losing it's on the capital in last year's municipal elections.

The second exit poll from statistics firm Ipsos with broadcast partner NOS shows a slightly bigger drop in support for anti-Islam party PVV than predicted earlier. An estimated 49 percent of voters cast a ballot in the provincial election, which directly leads to the make-up of the Dutch senate, or Eerste Kamer.
