Netherlands braces for sunny, hot week with peaks near 36°C Wednesday
Sunny and hot weather is set to arrive in the Netherlands this upcoming week, Weeronline forecasts. The peak is expected on Wednesday when the temperatures could rise up to 34-36 degrees in the east and the south. However, Limburg, the Achterhoek, and Twente might still see such temperatures on Thursday.
In the meantime, temperatures across the country this Sunday afternoon range from about 19 degrees in the north to 24–25 degrees in parts of the south and east.
Monday is set to start with some showers, mainly inland. Rains will ease later after the sunshine spreads from the west. Temperatures will reach 20 degrees at the coast and 24 degrees in Limburg.
Tuesday is expected to bring a warm summer day with frequent sunshine in most areas. Clouds may linger longer in the north.
A weak-to-moderate southwest wind will push temperatures to 25-27 degrees in coastal provinces and 28 to locally 30 degrees in the east, central parts of the country, and south. Apply sunscreen if outdoors, Weeronline advises. UV index hits 6 between noon and 3 p.m., and skin can burn in 15-25 minutes.
Wednesday is expected to be the hottest day for most of the country. Coastal areas could reach 30 degrees. But the temperatures in the south and the east could climb up to 34-36 degrees. Bright sunshine and light winds will dominate, but a cooling sea breeze may form along the west coast in the afternoon.
Thursday’s temperatures remain uncertain. A strong west wind could keep coastal highs at 25 degrees. A later shift could leave Rotterdam and Amsterdam above 30 degrees. Limburg, the Achterhoek, and Twente may still hit 35-36 degrees, matching Wednesday.
Northwest or north winds from the North Sea take over Friday and Saturday. Highs drop and regional differences will grow. Coastal areas are set to stay near 24 degrees each afternoon. The southeast can still reach 30 degrees locally. Expect a mix of clouds and sun, Weeronline says. Despite the ongoing drought, a slight chance of inland showers exists over the weekend and early next week.
