Thousands of travelers affected by Transavia cancellations last week

Transavia canceled over 20 flights last week, affecting thousands of travelers, De Telegraaf reported. The low-cost airline had to cancel flights due to operational problems - multiple planes were unavailable due to “various causes,” Transavia told the newspaper.

Data from claims specialist EU Claim shows that Transavia canceled 22 flights last week, affecting some 4,000 travelers. In the same week last year, the KLM subsidiary canceled 13 flights.

“Unfortunately, we have had to cancel a number of flights. Several aircraft were unavailable for various reasons,” a Transavia spokesperson said to the newspaper. “We were able to keep operations running as much as possible by rebooking passengers on a flight on the same day.”

The spokesperson could not say how many passengers were rebooked on another flight the same day, or how many were left stranded for a longer period. Affected travelers can claim up to €400 in compensation, depending on how long they were stranded and other factors.

Sources close to Transavia told the Telegraaf that the airline experienced problems with the delivery of parts, resulting in several aircraft not being ready on time for their scheduled flights following inspections and checks.

Despite the cancellations, Transavia says that it is looking ahead to the coming weeks with confidence. The coming weeks are the busiest travel period of the year for the Netherlands, as many residents go on summer vacations.
