Three residents checked for smoke inhalation after fire in Delft apartment complex

A fire broke out Saturday afternoon in an apartment complex in Delft, sending smoke through the building, forcing evacuations of six homes and leaving three residents to be checked for smoke inhalation, Omroep West reports. A cat was also rescued from the building and taken away by an animal ambulance.

The fire started around 12:15 p.m. in a storage area on the third floor of a residential building on Reinier de Graafweg. Fire crews brought the blaze under control, according to a fire department spokesperson.

Emergency responders evaluated three residents who had inhaled smoke. None required hospital treatment.

Six apartments were evacuated as a precaution while firefighters worked at the scene. The fire’s cause has not been determined.

Authorities said the affected homes are being checked for the presence of toxic substances. After inspections are completed, the units will be ventilated, after which residents are expected to be allowed to return.
