Sunny weekend to give way to cooler Koningsdag with slight risk of northern shower
The Netherlands will remain in a prolonged dry period through the weekend, with mostly sunny conditions on Saturday and Sunday, followed by a cooler Koningsdag on Monday. Temperatures will vary sharply between regions, and only a slight chance of a shower will remain in the north on Koningsdag, weeronline reports.
Saturday afternoon has featured widespread sunshine across most of the country. Only the Wadden Islands have seen occasional clouds, where temperatures have remained near 10 degrees. On the mainland, it has been milder, with about 13 degrees in the north, 16 degrees to 17 degrees in central areas, and locally up to 19 degrees in Noord-Brabant and Limburg. A weak to moderate northwesterly wind has been present.
From Saturday evening onward, conditions will remain mostly clear until sunset at 8:54 p.m. Temperatures will still reach double digits in many areas early in the evening. After sunset, it will cool quickly, dropping to around 1 degree in the northeast and about 7 degrees along the coast. Overnight, cloud cover will increase, but it will remain dry nationwide.
Sunday will stay dry across the entire country, with sunshine dominating the weather. Thin high clouds will drift in from the west later, but they won't affect the sun.
Temperatures will be slightly lower than on Saturday, ranging from around 11 degrees in the north to about 17 degrees inland. Winds will remain light and come from the northeast.
Koningsnacht will remain dry and largely clear at first, making for favorable conditions for evening celebrations. During the night, cloud cover will gradually increase from the west, but no rain is expected. Temperatures will fall to between 3 and 7 degrees in most areas, with parts of the north potentially dropping close to freezing.
Koningsdag will begin cold, with early morning temperatures in some areas only just above freezing. Throughout the day, a mix of cloud cover and sunny spells will develop. Afternoon highs will reach around 12 degrees in the northwest and up to 17 degrees in the south. Winds will remain light.
