Boyfriend arrested in slaying of Amsterdam woman working for ABN Amro
Authorities have detained a suspect linked to the death of an ABN Amro employee, who had been discovered deceased in her residence on Koninginneweg in Amsterdam-Zuid. The police have taken the victim’s partner, 39, into custody as part of the investigation. He is suspected of involvement in her death.
The ABN Amro employee was found dead in her home on Koninginneweg in Amsterdam-Zuid on Thursday, March 26. Police immediately opened a large-scale investigation and conducted another detailed forensic examination of the property on April 3 to determine the cause of death. She was reported missing by colleagues when she failed to show up for work. Police now believe her death was likely caused by a criminal act.
That same week, another woman working for ABN Amro was also murdered. That woman was found dead in Nieuw-Vennep, part of her hometown of Harlemmermeer. A 36-year-old without a fixed address was arrested on suspicion of killing the woman at random near the Nieuw-Vennep rail station.
Although the two victims were both employed by the Amsterdam bank, police said their murders were unrelated. A spokesperson for the bank previously reacted with shock at the two deaths and said support services were made available to affected colleagues.
Authorities stress that the investigation is still in progress and that the reason for the arrest has not yet been fully disclosed. They are calling on witnesses or anyone with relevant information to contact them.
The victim’s partner is in custody under restrictions, which means he is only allowed to have contact with his lawyer.
