Police: no link between deaths of two women from same bank
Police say there seems to be no link between the deaths of two women in Nieuw-Vennep and Amsterdam, even though both worked for the same company. Two separate teams are investigating. Authorities arrested a suspect on Tuesday in connection with the violent death in Nieuw-Vennep, while the Amsterdam case on Koninginneweg is still under investigation to determine if a crime was involved.
On Monday, the body of a 59-year-old woman was found in a parking lot near Nieuw-Vennep station. Authorities arrested a 36-year-old Italian man in connection with her death. She worked for ABN AMRO, the same bank where another employee was found dead last Thursday in a home in Amsterdam-Zuid.
The two investigation teams met to discuss the fact that both women worked for the same company. However, on Wednesday, police confirmed that aside from their shared employer, there appears to be no other link.
The suspect, who has no permanent address, remains in custody and is scheduled to appear before the examining magistrate on Friday, April 3.
Mayor Marianne Schuurmans of Haarlemmermeer, where Nieuw-Vennep is located, expressed deep shock on Tuesday over the violent death of the woman. She said she recognizes that such an event has a major impact on the community. A spokesperson for the bank where both women worked described the two deaths on Tuesday as “a shock and very sad.”
