About 1 in 10 Dutch drivers consider switching to electric cars due to rising fuel costs
About 1 in 10 car owners in the Netherlands say they are considering switching to an electric vehicle due to rising fuel costs, according to a representative Hart van Nederland panel survey of more than 2,000 respondents.
The survey shows that 9 percent of Dutch car owners are thinking about moving to a hybrid or fully electric car. Only 1 percent say they intend to buy an electric vehicle in the near term.
A large majority, 88 percent, say they are not considering an electric vehicle at all. A frequently cited reason among those respondents is financial: they say they simply do not have the money to purchase a hybrid or electric car.
The findings come as fuel prices have recently increased again. Diesel became more expensive on Saturday, following a previous rise of more than 10 cents on Friday. According to consumer collective UnitedConsumers, the national recommended price for a liter of diesel now stands at 2.799 euros.
The survey is based on a structured panel methodology designed to ensure representativeness. Participant characteristics such as gender, age, place of residence, education level, and political preference are known and monitored.
