Priciest ticket for FIFA World Cup final costs €9,500; Oranje's 1st match up to €2,600
Football fans will have to dig deep into their pockets if they want to physically go watch a match at the FIFA World Cup in Mexico, Canada, and the United States this year. The most expensive ticket for the final will cost $10,990, equivalent to over €9,500, FIFA announced on Thursday.
Research by BBC Sport shows that the most expensive ticket for the Netherlands’ first match, against Japan in Dallas on June 14, costs nearly €2,600. But that’s the priciest ticket possible for the match. Most supporters will spend around €310 on average for their ticket. That excludes parking, which costs between $125 and $500, according to RTL Nieuws.
The World Cup final will be on July 19 in New York. The prices were initially estimated at a maximum of $1,550 for the final, or over €1,300. But that price has continued to rise in recent months, and now officially topped the $10,000 mark. For comparison, the most expensive ticket at the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar cost around €1,390.
FIFA does not disclose how it determines the selling price, which is only announced during public sales. During the previous sales round last December, even the most expensive final tickets in Category 1 were significantly cheaper than now, costing around €7,500. Since then, prices have risen by 38 percent. These are also only the official sale prices. Ticket prices will likely skyrocket even more on resale.
The European consumer organization Euroconsumer and Football Supporters Europe (FSE) filed formal complaints with the European Commission against FIFA last week. They accused the world football governing body of changing “excessive prices” under “unfair purchasing conditions,” among other things.
