Stellantis launches global recall; 19,000 cars of 8 brands recalled in Netherlands
Car manufacturer Stellantis has recalled hundreds of thousands of cars worldwide due to a fire hazard. In the Netherlands, it involves 19,000 cars from eight different brands, a spokesperson for the parent company of brands like Peugeot, Fiat, and Opel told NOS.
The German transport authority KBA reported that Stellantis was recalling 700,000 cars worldwide. The recall concerns specific models of Peugeot, Citroën, DS Automobiles, Opel, Lancia, Alfa Romeo, Jeep, and Fiat from the years 2023 through 2026.
In these vehicles, a pipe in the engine runs too close to the fuel filter. This can cause a short circuit if the parts touch each other under damp conditions. That in turn can lead to overheating, creating a fire hazard.
Stellantis is not aware of any of its cars catching fire in the Netherlands due to the defect, the spokesperson told NOS.
The company is contacting affected car owners so that they can take their car to a dealer. There, the space between the parts will be adjusted, and the protected cover will be replaced. This will take about 30 minutes and is free of charge.
Last year, Stellantis also recalled thousands of cars due to engine wear. Shortly before that, Citroen recalled tens of thousands of cars due to issues with the airbags.
This is also not the first car recall so far this year. Last week, Volkswagen recalled 100,000 electric cars over battery issues, including around 4,000 in the Netherlands. And last month, BMW recalled hundreds of thousands of cars due to fire risk, including 4,233 in the Netherlands.
