Open House Day sees higher turnout with 52,000 touring homes nationwide
About 52,000 people visited homes across the Netherlands on Saturday during Open House Day, organized by the Dutch real estate association NVM, rising from 45,000 in October and 42,000 during the previous spring edition a year earlier.
The public opened roughly 8,900 homes, accounting for approximately 18 percent of all properties listed on Funda. In the previous spring edition, about 6,100 homes participated. The event included more than 6,000 houses and nearly 2,900 apartments.
The average asking price of participating homes was 617,000 euros. In most large cities, prices ranged from about 550,000 to 650,000 euros. Amsterdam stood out with an average asking price of 800,000 euros. A total of 667 participating homes were listed above 1 million euros.
“Both the number of participants and visitors are firmly increasing,” said Benedikte Zijlstra, a real estate agent and board member of NVM-Wonen. She said the supply is growing, but prices remain high, especially in and around the Randstad.
Major cities led participation, including Amsterdam, Rotterdam, and The Hague, driven partly by the sale of former rental properties. Eindhoven, Arnhem, and Enschede followed suit. NVM said cities outside the Randstad, including Enschede, still offer “relatively affordable alternatives.”
On average, homes received 5.8 visitors, up from 5.3 in October. NVM said the October edition took place under more autumn-like weather conditions.
