Recommended price for petrol in Netherlands tops €2.50 per liter
The average recommended retail price of the major oil companies for petrol in the Netherlands rose to over €2.50 per liter on Tuesday morning. Pump prices have risen sharply in recent weeks due to the war in the Middle East.
According to the consumer collective UnitedConsumers, oil companies are now charging €2.504 per liter for Euro95. That is nearly 2 cents more than on Monday. Petrol prices are now nearly matching the record set in 2022, when fuel prices skyrocketed after Russia invaded Ukraine. The 2022 record is €2.505 per liter.
Fuel expert Denk Foolen of UnitedConsumers predicted on Monday that the price would likely exceed €2.50 per liter. According to Foolen, the war is causing unrest in the oil market, and that will persist for the time being. Pump prices may therefore rise even further in the coming period.
Due to the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, many oil tankers can’t sail out of the Persian Gulf. As a result, oil prices are rising sharply.
The price of diesel at Dutch pumps recently also surpassed €2.50 per liter, then dropped slightly again. The average recommended price for a liter of diesel now stands at €2.482.
Motorists can still end up paying less at the pump. The recommended price is often charged only at expensive gas stations, such as those along highways. Elsewhere, liter prices are sometimes tens of cents lower.
