Amsterdam daycare worker may have sexually abused 33 children, prosecutors say
The families of about 20 more children have pressed charges against child sexual abuse suspect Jan B., who has already been formally charged in incidents involving four young victims at a daycare in Amsterdam. Prosecutors reiterated in court on Wednesday that they were readying charges in cases involving nine more child victims. The suspect, a former Almere City Council member denied some of the allegations during the preliminary hearing.
Prosecutors laid out several allegations from their initial investigation during Wednesday’s hearing, including accusations B. groped a boy with developmental disabilities. Additionally, he is accused of sexual assault of a child, attempted rape by placing his hand down a child’s pants, producing child sex abuse content, downloading child sex abuse content, and possession of the child-like sex doll.
The judges presiding over the case asked B. whether he agreed with the OM’s allegations, the Telegraaf reported. In a direct response to the chair of the three-judge panel, B. stated that he does not see the situation the same way the accusations were presented.
“I am listening to them, and it surprises me here and there,” he stated during the preliminary hearing. He would not concede to the initial investigation’s conclusions, saying, “Not all the facts the prosecutor mentions are familiar to me.”
Since his arrest in Almere in late November 2025, B. has been held in custody and will remain detained for the foreseeable future. His next court appearance, a procedural hearing, is set for May 12.
Because the investigation into the additional victims is still ongoing, the court will proceed using the original charges for now. The suspect has also been ordered to undergo a psychiatric examination to determine his mental competency.
