Sunshine, clear skies, and temps up to 20 degrees in Netherlands today

The Netherlands is in for another day of weather that feels like it's been plucked from mid-May. There will be plenty of sunshine, little to no cloud cover, and exceptionally mild temperatures, with maximums maybe reaching 20 degrees in some places in the south, according to Buienradar.

The meteorological institute KNMI forecasts maximum temperatures ranging between 16 degrees Celsius in the northwest and around 19 degrees Celsius in the southeast. The wind will be moderate from the southeast.

Tonight will be clear and dry, with a light to moderate wind from the southeast. Minimums will drop to between 2 and 6 degrees Celsius, northeast to southwest.

Friday will look much the same, with maximums around 17 degrees in many places, and up to 19 degrees in the south. The Wadden Islands will still be a bit cooler, at around 12 degrees Celsius. During the afternoon, a light to moderate offshore wind will pick up in the west, bringing some cooler temperatures.

The current temperatures are exceptionally mild for the time of year. The long-term average maximum for early March, measured between 1991 and 2020, is 8.5 degrees Celsius. Typical maximums only hit double digits in the last ten days of March, and only approach 20 degrees Celsius in May.

The mild weather will continue for the foreseeable future, according to the KNMI. “Plenty of sunshine through Monday,” the meteorological institute said. “It will remain dry through the weekend, but from Monday onwards, the chance of showers will increase.”
