PSV win again while NEC stay in Feyenoord’s wake
PSV picked up a hard-fought victory away to FC Groningen on Sunday to maintain their 14-point lead at the top of the Eredivisie table. Ismael Saibari and Dennis Man scored for Peter Bosz’s side after they had gone a goal down to a goal from Younes Taha.
The home side had gone into the lead in the 17th minute. A long ball from keeper Etienne Vaessen was deflected into the path of Taha via PSV defender Armando Obispo. The forward then shaped his body around the ball before whipping it over Nick Schiks, who was forced to play after injuries to Matej Kovar and Nick Olij.
PSV equalized in the 65th minute. Joey Veerman back-heeled a ball into space for Mauro Junior, his cross was right onto the head of Ismael Saibari, and the Moroccan nodded home to get his 11th Eredivisie goal of the season.
The reigning champions got the winning goal 11 minutes later. A corner was nodded down to Dennis Man by Saibari, and the Romanian was able to tap it home after he had taken a touch in the six-yard box. PSV have now extended their record of consecutive away victories to 16.
NEC Nijmegen also picked up another win to keep their fight for a Champions League place alive. It was another sublime attacking display from Dick Schreuder’s side, winning 4-1 against Heracles Almelo. Bryan Linssen, Tjaronn Chery, Basar Onal, and Noe Lebreton scored for NEC, with Lequincio Zeefuik getting the solitary goal for the visitors in the Goffert Stadium. Schreuder’s side is a point behind Feyenoord, who are in second place.
Sparta Rotterdam failed to close the gap to fourth-place Ajax with a 2-2 draw at Fortuna Sittard. A dramatic match in the Offermans Joosten stadium finished level after a 97th-minute equalizer from Casper Terho canceled out a 90th-minute goal from Yassin Oukilli for Fortuna.
At the other end of the table, FC Volendam picked up a huge victory over PEC Zwolle thanks to a dramatic 91st-minute winner from Bradley Kuwas to take themselves four points clear of 16th-place Telstar, who are in the relegation playoff spot.
