Dutch prosecution staffer caught with child sex abuse content & GHB will face trial

A 51-year-old former employee of the Public Prosecution Service (OM) in Doetinchem will stand trial on April 10, 2026, for the possession and distribution of a massive cache of child sex abuse videos and hard drugs.

Authorities discovered over 46,000 illicit images and 450 videos, along with a quantity of GHB, during a search of his digital devices following an initial tip-off regarding drug trafficking. To ensure total impartiality, the high-stakes case has been moved from the Oost Nederland district to the District Court of The Hague.

The OM added that the man was not a prosecutor and has since been fired from his position. He is also being prosecuted for sharing the child sex abuse videos with others. The court will hear the substance of the case on April 10, 2026, beginning at 1:30 p.m.

This is not the first time this week that a member of the criminal authorities has been in the news for child sex abuse. The OM recommended a six-year prison term and compulsory psychiatric treatment at a TBS facility on Thursday for a police officer accused in several cases of sexual misconduct, grooming, and possessing child sex abuse videos.

During a nationwide enforcement week in November 2025, police visited over 30 suspects and confiscated digital storage devices as part of efforts to combat possession of child sex abuse videos, underscoring the scale and intensity of ongoing investigations into such crimes.

According to the Public Prosecution Service’s annual report for 2024, a total of 340 criminal cases that year concerned offenses related to child sex abuse footage.
