Rain in the west and north to give way to sunshine across the Netherlands

The Netherlands will see mixed weather over the coming days, with rain and clouds in the west and north gradually giving way to sunshine, while other regions experience mild temperatures for mid-January, Weeronline reports.

On Saturday morning, light rain fell in parts of the west and north. Gradually, the precipitation will stop, and inland areas will see occasional sun. Temperatures at the end of the morning will reach 6 to 9 degrees. Winds are expected to be light to moderate from the southeast.

By the afternoon, clouds will persist in the western provinces, though it will remain dry. Elsewhere, the sun will shine intermittently, with some high clouds passing over. Temperatures in most of the country will reach 10 to 11 degrees, slightly cooler at 8 or 9 degrees along the northern and western coasts, while around 6 degrees is common inland. Winds will remain light from the southeast.

Saturday night will bring wider clearings, though low clouds, haze, and mist are expected in the northeast. Inland temperatures will drop slightly below freezing, while coastal regions will stay between 2 and 4 degrees, and Zeeland will reach around 5 degrees.

Sunday

Sunday morning will be gray across the north and northeast, with widespread haze and mist. Elsewhere, the sun will break through. Temperatures will rise slowly, reaching 2 to 3 degrees in the northeast and 4 to 6 degrees in sunnier areas. Winds will be light from the east.

Sunday afternoon will see substantial sunshine across much of the country. The north will continue to experience low clouds, haze, and mist, though the sun will break through in some areas. Overall, temperatures will range from 3 to 4 degrees in the north to 7 to 8 degrees in the southwest and south. Zeeuws-Vlaanderen may reach 9 degrees. Winds will remain light to moderate from the east.

Sunday evening and overnight into Monday will be clear, with weak east to southeast winds. Inland temperatures will drop below zero, with most areas experiencing 1 to 2 degrees of frost. Coastal regions will remain slightly above freezing.

Monday, known as Blue Monday—the traditionally most depressing day of the year—will see a mix of sun and clouds in the afternoon. Morning fog and haze may linger in some areas. It will be dry, with light south to southeast winds. Temperatures will reach 3 degrees Celsius in the north and 6 degrees in the south.

Tuesday is expected to feature long periods of sunshine and dry conditions. Morning fog may appear locally. Winds will remain light from the east, and temperatures will rise from 4 degrees in the north to 8 degrees locally in the south.

Wednesday will bring continued sunshine and dry conditions, with light to moderate east to southeast winds. Temperatures will range from 3 to 6 degrees, with early morning and evening temperatures at or below freezing.

For the remainder of the week and into the weekend, the Netherlands can expect stable, dry winter weather with frequent sunshine. Overnight frost will persist, and daytime temperatures will remain a few degrees above zero.
