Teen stabbed at Amsterdam high school, six students arrested
Six suspects were arrested on Friday morning following a stabbing inside a high school. A 16-year-old was taken to the hospital after being stabbed at Mundus College on Burgemeester Hogguerstraat in Amsterdam-Nieuw West. The boy was conscious while being transported.
Het Parool reported that he was stabbed in the leg. Police received a report of the stabbing at around 9:30 a.m. All six suspects are students at the school. Ariëlle de Ruijter, director of the Esprit school network, said it is unlikely any other students witnessed the incident, as all were in their classrooms at the time.
The incident occurred during the school’s Christmas celebration, as is customary on the final day of the school year. All students were sent home immediately after the celebration.
The school is currently closed, and an emergency meeting has been called for staff. Mentors will remain available over the Christmas break for students seeking support. The police have also offered victim support to any students or teachers affected by the incident.
“We are very shocked,” said De Ruijter. “It is very sad, especially for the boy who was injured.” This follows another incident in November, when an explosion occurred at the school during a parents’ evening. No one was injured in that incident.
There has been no update on the extent of the victim’s injuries. Forensic investigators and detectives are examining the precise circumstances of the incident and the role played by each suspect. They have requested any available footage from before, during, or after the stabbing to be shared with authorities.
