Amsterdam is Netherlands’ top shopping destination; Eindhoven also popular

Amsterdam continues to dominate as the country’s most popular shopping destination, with the P.C. Hooftstraat, Van Baerlestraat, and Kalverstraat drawing the largest crowds, NU.nl reports.

Outside the Randstad, Eindhoven emerges as the most visited shopping city, according to research by real estate advisor CBRE. The Demer, in particular, leads the national ranking of top shopping streets.

CBRE, a global commercial real estate services firm, reports that Dutch shopping streets demonstrate resilience, with an average vacancy rate of 4.3 percent and rental prices stabilizing after years of decline.

In Rotterdam, De Hoogstraat remains the city’s primary retail hub, while the Lijnbaan has shown the strongest growth since 2019. The Coolsingel is developing at a similar pace.

In Utrecht, the Oudegracht has attracted new international retailers, including UNIQLO. Meanwhile, the Steenweg faces pressure as the retail focus shifts toward the Hoog Catharijne shopping center.

The Hague shows stable retail performance. The Spuistraat performs best, while the Grote Marktstraat remains important but is under pressure from the Mall of the Netherlands in Leidschendam, which draws shoppers with its large, varied selection.
