Dutch manufacturers expand into defense sector with €22 billion in government funding
Dutch manufacturing companies including Aalberts, Signify, and Kendrion are increasingly focusing on producing components for the defense sector, taking advantage of rising military budgets in the Netherlands and across Europe, according to FD.
The sector has faced several years of weak demand and rising production costs, reportedly making defense contracts an attractive revenue source.
The Dutch government has allocated approximately 22 billion euros for defense this year, providing a significant boost for companies that can supply specialized equipment and technology.
Kendrion, a brake specialist, is exploring opportunities to supply precision brakes for radar systems and specialized locks. “Beautiful opportunities are emerging,” CEO Joep van Beurden told FD. He highlighted particularly strong potential among German clients.
Signify, a lighting company, is expanding its work with defense as well. The firm is already collaborating with the Dutch Ministry of Defense on technology that allows military personnel to communicate using light.
Signify also sees demand for modernizing or installing lighting systems in military barracks. “Demand is increasing strongly both in the Netherlands and in countries such as Spain and the United States,” said division leader Mark Gunther.
