Video: Massive fire at Barneveld industrial site shuts down A30 in both directions
A large fire at an industrial site in Barneveld forced the closure of the A30 in both directions on Sunday, along with nearby A1 exits at Barneveld, after thick black smoke spread toward the highway and surrounding areas. By the afternoon, authorities declared the fire under control.
According to Omroep Gelderland, the fire broke out shortly before noon at a powder-coating company on De Landweer.
Multiple fire engines, including an aerial platform, were dispatched to the scene. A fire brigade spokesperson said people were working inside when the fire started, but the cause of the fire remains unknown.
Large clouds of black smoke rose from the site. Fire crews tested the smoke for toxic substances, and residents were urged to keep windows and doors closed and to switch off ventilation systems as a precaution.
The smoke drifted toward the highway, prompting the A30 shutdown between Barneveld and Scherpenzeel and the closure of the A1 exits at Barneveld, according to Rijkswaterstaat.
