Firefighters continue to battle large warehouse fire in Goes

A major fire continues to burn in a warehouse on Pearyweg in Goes, causing significant smoke nuisance in the area. The blaze, which started Saturday afternoon, reignited early Sunday morning, forcing the closure of a local cinema due to the strong smell of smoke.

Air quality measurements have been conducted as far as Zierikzee. While no elevated levels of toxic substances have been detected at ground level, soot particles and fire debris are expected to settle in the surrounding area.

The fire department has been unable to enter the warehouse due to safety concerns, complicating efforts to extinguish the flames. A spokesperson for the regional safety authority stated Sunday afternoon that firefighting operations could take several more hours. Streets near the site have been cordoned off, and fire crews have been rotated to manage the response.

No injuries have been reported. Authorities continue to monitor the situation and advise residents to remain cautious as firefighting efforts proceed.
