Dutch prosecutors seek 18-year sentences for fatal Purmerend shooting
Dutch prosecutors have demanded 18-year prison sentences for Tayron Delgado M., 20, and Marouane van E., 21, for a February 2024 attack in Purmerend that left a 19-year-old man stabbed and shot to death.
Authorities say the victim was wounded during a confrontation between two rival groups near Purmerend station on February 12. Security cameras captured four gunshots, and investigators found four shell casings. DNA from a 17-year-old Amsterdam resident was found on two casings; prosecutors say he also stabbed the victim. His case is closed to the public because he is a minor.
Prosecutors allege Van E. fired the first two shots, after which Delgado M. may have taken the weapon. It is reportedly not possible to determine who fired the fatal shot.
The violence reportedly stemmed from a feud that began at a 2023 festival and escalated through assaults, threats, explosions, and stabbings. One July 2023 stabbing nearly killed a victim from arterial bleeding.
Before the February shooting, the suspects allegedly went to a house in Geuzenveld-Slotermeer, Amsterdam, to threaten someone. A 12-year-old girl answered the door while Delgado M. kept a gun hidden under his jacket and Van E. shouted, “don’t shoot.”
