Fourth suspect arrested in Heemstede synagogue terror plot
Police have arrested a fourth suspect in an investigation into the alleged preparation of an explosive attack targeting a Jewish institution on Adriaan Pauwlaan in Heemstede, Het Parool reports.
The latest arrest involves a 20-year-old man from Amsterdam, taken into custody on June 9. Authorities say he is suspected of “preparing acts to cause an explosion or committing arson in association with a terrorist motive.”
He was brought before an investigating judge in Amsterdam on Friday, who ordered him detained for an additional 14 days. He is being held under full restrictions, meaning he may only communicate with his attorney.
Earlier in the investigation, police arrested three Amsterdam suspects aged 14, 17, and 18. The two minors were detained overnight after a police check near a Jewish institution in Heemstede on March 20 in the area of Adriaan Pauwlaan. During that operation, officers found heavy fireworks in the vicinity of the building.
Authorities say the synagogue area in Heemstede was already under increased surveillance due to earlier incidents involving Jewish institutions in Amsterdam and Rotterdam.
