Empty Westkapelle hotel destroyed in major overnight fire

An abandoned hotel in Westkapelle was completely destroyed by fire Saturday evening, fire officials reported. The blaze consumed the former Hotel Woestduyn on Hogeweg, leaving the building beyond salvage, PZC reported.

The fire erupted shortly after 9 p.m., prompting authorities to escalate the response to a “major fire.” Firefighting units from Westkapelle, Zoutelande, and Domburg rushed to the scene, but the building could not be saved. Fire crews declared the blaze extinguished around midnight.

Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire. No injuries were reported during the incident.

The hotel had previously been renovated to house Ukrainian refugees several years ago but was unoccupied at the time of the fire.
