Amazon pushing €1.4 billion into expanding its online store in the Netherlands

Amazon will invest over €1.4 billion in the Netherlands through 2027 to improve its online store’s offerings and delivery. The company is installing more parcel lockers, among other things. More money will also be allocated to AWS, the American company’s cloud service.

Amazon Netherlands manager Eva Faict called the Netherlands an “important growth market” for the company. “With these investments, we can serve our customers even better, improve our services, and further support Dutch entrepreneurs with our technology and expertise,” Faict said in a press release.

Amazon did not disclose whether the investments will create additional jobs. The company currently employs over 1,000 people in the Netherlands, working in offices in Amsterdam and The Hague and in logistics centers in Rozenburg and Almelo. The company has been active in the Netherlands through Amazon.nl since 2020. Before that, Dutch people could order from international versions of the online store.

With AWS, Amazon controls a third of the global cloud market, making it the largest, ahead of Microsoft and Google. This branch is becoming increasingly important due to the rise of artificial intelligence (AI).
