Dutch political donations drop to €3 Million in 2025

Political parties in the Netherlands received smaller large donations in 2025 compared with the previous election year, according to an ANP analysis of data from the Ministry of the Interior. Contributions of more than 10,000 euros totaled 3 million euros this year, down from nearly 5.5 million euros in 2023. Figures cover donations up to October 9, 2025.

The VVD and SP saw the largest declines. The VVD received 1 million euros less than in 2023, while the SP’s donations dropped by over 850,000 euros.

By contrast, D66 saw its contributions rise to 765,000 euros, nearly 50 percent more than in 2023. GroenLinks led all parties in total donations this year, receiving almost 770,000 euros.

The largest donor in both years was Stichting The Dreamery Foundation, the non-profit of Dutch tech entrepreneur Steven Schuurman. The foundation donated 100,000 euros to D66 in both 2023 and 2025, and an additional 100,000 euros to Volt this year. Schuurman has previously contributed to multiple parties.
