Two killed in separate stabbing incidents in Purmerend and Lent; Two suspects in custody
There were two fatal stabbings in the Netherlands on Thursday. A person was stabbed to death in a home in Purmerend. And a woman was stabbed to death in Lent, a Gelderland village that forms part of the municipality of Nijmegen.
The police responded to the Purmerend stabbing at around 5:40 p.m., also deploying two ambulances and a trauma team by helicopter to the home on Beethovenstraat.
The victim died at the scene, the police told NH Nieuws. One person was arrested. The police said nothing about the identity of the victim or suspect or their relationship to one another.
In Lent, a man was arrested for stabbing a woman to death in what neighbors describe as a possible femicide, according to De Gelderlander.
Emergency services responded to Kinksstraat in the Gelderland village at around 10:40 p.m. after reports from locals of a woman screaming. First responders found the critically injured woman at the scene. They rushed her to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
The police arrested a man for involvement in the woman’s death a few hours after the incident. So far, the police have released no details about what happened.
Neighbors told De Gelderlander that they ran outside to see what was happening when they heard the woman screaming loudly in the street. “The screaming was bone-chilling,” one neighbor said. “It was a real cry for help.”
The neighbors provided first aid while waiting for the emergency services. According to them, the woman had multiple stab wounds.
