Man arrested for sexual assault of three women on Wageningen bus
Dutch police arrested a 32-year-old man Sunday evening after three women reported being sexually assaulted on a bus traveling from Ede-Wageningen to Wageningen, police reports.
The suspect's place of residence is unknown, and he holds Lithuanian nationality. The women, all in their twenties and from Wageningen, boarded the bus at the Ede-Wageningen station. During the ride, the suspect allegedly inappropriately touched the women. The bus driver noticed the harassment and removed the man at a stop near Wageningen University.
Police arrived at the Wageningen bus station shortly afterward. When the next bus arrived, the suspect was on board. The women immediately identified him, and officers handcuffed and arrested him.
Authorities praised the quick action of the women and other passengers. “The alert reporting of these incidents allowed police to respond quickly, resulting in an immediate arrest,” a police spokesperson said.
The arrest comes amid heightened attention to women’s safety following the death of Lisa from Abcoude more than two weeks ago. Across the country, women have organized bicycle rides to highlight areas they consider unsafe.
Police urged anyone experiencing or witnessing harassment to report it promptly by calling 112 in emergencies or 0900-8844 for non-urgent matters.
