Ajax set to re-sign Kasper Dolberg following Brian Brobbey and Bertrand Traore sales
Ajax are set to re-sign Kasper Dolberg on transfer deadline day, having sold Brian Brobbey and Bertrand Traore to English Premier League side Sunderland. The Amsterdammers will spend a reported amount of 10 million euros on Dolberg, who rejoins the club having played 199 games for them between 2016 and 2020.
Ajax will be able to offset the fee with the 23 million euros that they received from Sunderland for the services of Brian Brobbey and Bertrand Traore. Brobbey signed a four-year contract with the newly promoted side, with Traore signing a one-year contract. Dolberg’s transfer is expected to be finalized on Tuesday, which is when the transfer window for Dutch clubs shuts.
Sunderland also announced the signing of another Oranje international yesterday, signing Lutsharel Geertruida from Red Bull Leipzig on loan. This is in addition to the signing of Dutch keeper Robin Roefs in the summer from NEC Nijmegen.
It had been clear from last season that Brobbey would be leaving Amsterdam. The striker struggled for form last season, scoring just eight goals in 44 appearances for the team that finished second. A report regarding Brobbey’s issues with the criminal underworld in the past also shed some light on the 23-year-old’s issues in the capital city.
It was not the only business done by clubs in the Eredivisie during the last few days of the window. Feyenoord announced two new signings on Monday. Canadian striker Cyle Larin and the Swedish center back Malcom Jeng have both been brought in by the Rotterdam team on loan.
Larin is an experienced striker. The 30-year-old played all three games for the Canadian national side at the previous World Cup in Qatar in 2022. Feyenoord are currently top of the Eredivisie table with a game in hand on their competitors.
