Rotterdam police seize 31 sick and neglected Maine Coon cats

Police in Rotterdam-Charlois have taken 31 Maine Coon cats from a home after repeated reports of severe neglect and unsanitary conditions, authorities said.

Since June, officers conducting inspections found a residence with dirty conditions and sick cats and kittens, Rijnmond reported. Some of the animals were reported to be in extremely poor health.

The owners were allegedly given opportunities by the National Animal Welfare Inspectorate to improve the situation, but no sufficient action was taken.

As a result, all 31 cats were seized at the end of July. “They have been placed in a safe location where they are receiving proper care,” police said in a statement.
