PSV make it two wins out of two with comfortable victory against FC Twente in Enschede
PSV continued their strong start to the Eredivisie season on Sunday with a 0-2 win against FC Twente in Enschede. The Eindhovenaren had beaten Sparta Rotterdam 6-1 last week. A blemish on the day was the injury of Alassane Plea, who picked up a knee injury. The Frenchman was playing as a striker in Enschede because Ricardo Pepi is not fit, and Luuk de Jong has moved to FC Porto.
PSV manager Peter Bosz was so pleased about his team’s performance last week that he made no changes to his starting lineup. Whereas his opposite manager, Joseph Oosting, had clearly been disappointed by his team’s defeat against PEC Zwolle. He brought Kristian Hlynsson, Max Bruns, Daan Rots, and Mathias Kjølø into the side.
Bruns did not make a great start to the game when he scored an own goal from a cross by Sergino Dest. FC Twente responded well to the setback. The home team was giving their all, but were missing a scorer like Sem Steijn, who left the club last season to join Feyenoord. Taylor Booth came closest to equalizing. His effort was saved by goalkeeper Matej Tovar. Mathias Kjølø also had an effort which went just over the goal.
PSV were struggling after breaking the deadlock. Plea picked up his injury after a hard tackle by Robin Pröpper. The Frenchman limped towards the dressing room and was in a lot of pain.
This led to Bosz moving Ismael Saibari, a midfielder, to the striker position. Ivan Perisic and Guus Til have also played as strikers in the past.
PSV adapted more competently to Twente’s playing style after halftime and doubled their lead in the 54th minute. Mauro Júnior found Jerdy Schouten, and the new captain finished the opportunity to make it 2-0.
The visitors were hardly ever in trouble after this goal. Saibari and Til almost made it 3-0, but both players hit the post with their attempts.
FC Twente still has zero points after two games and will play SC Heerenveen away next week. Oosting hopes that he will be able to select the club’s new signing, Sondre Ørjasaete, and Sam Lammers.
