Body in burnt-out car near Landgraaf identified as missing man, 46; Suspect in custody
The body found in the trunk of a burnt-out car in Scherpenseel, Germany, last week has been identified as a man who had been reported missing in the Netherlands. The victim is a 46-year-old man with no fixed place of residence, the Limburg police reported on Monday.
The man’s body was found in a burned-out car last Tuesday, a few meters across the Dutch-German border near Landgraaf. A suspect was arrested in Germany a day after the discovery, the Dutch police said on Monday. He is suspected of involvement in the 46-year-old man’s death.
The victim had already been reported missing when the body was found. The Limburg police were investigating his whereabouts when their German colleagues contacted them about the car and remains.
The suspect is still in custody in Germany, and the Netherlands has requested his extradition, the man’s lawyer told L1.
The circumstances of the man’s death are still unclear. The police in Germany and the Netherlands are investigating.
